'Wild' Update

I'm finally at the end of the offline edit which has been an experience...Next time around this burden will definitely be shared with another editor!

Showing the rough cut to people has generated a variety of responses but all of them have been positive. The ending provokes an amount of debate, which can't be a bad thing. Off the back of  showing a rough cut  'Wild' has secured itself an excellent sound designer in the form of Jack Gillies. Jack has also managed to get us a theatre mix at Jumbuck which is great news.

The rough cut also persuaded an excellent band called Metronomy to let me use their music in the film. This is really exciting  not least because they were short listed for this years Mercury award, but  more important to me...I'm a big fan of theirs, so bit of a wish come true! The music really enhances some key scenes, so a big thanks to the band, Pru at Universal Music and Elysa at Because Music for making this happen.

Antonia Clarke, who plays Laura (Wild's lead), has recently been signed by the highly regarded talent agency, Troika, and recently picked up a part in Skins. She's an amazing talent and we at Scissorhands are quite smug that we got there first.

So it looks like we are on course for screenings in December and then putting the film into the festival circuit early next year. It's either the end of days or the beginning. Lets hope for sun

'Wild' in the can

So we completed production on our first short last week. Still not entirely sure of what to make of it all. Stressful; challenging; of course, but the abiding feeling is how much fun it was. We assembled a great crew without whom it would have been impossible to make it happen. Our actors were a total delight, our extras patient and the weather exactly what was required. Even our untrained feline actor was exceptional. I'm still having sleepless nights worrying about whether I have the coverage for everything so the next few weeks will be fairly crucial in terms of establishing the shape of the film and seeing if it hangs together well. Will keep things updated here on the blog.

'Wild' goes into production - A big week!

Barring an act of God it looks as if Scissorhands is about to start its first film project. It's been touch and go but an almost autistic desire to get this short into production had brought a host of goodly people together to make it happen.

The shoot starts on the 13th April and runs for 5 days. We'll be launching various social network initiatives and other new fangled means of disseminating info about the project as soon as we get a chance.

Scissorhands first foray into Production

So it has been decided that we are going to make our first short film. Yes its madness, not least because it's self funded, but sometimes you've got to take a punt. The script is about a teenage girl trying to establish whether her boyfriend has cheated on her. It's written by a great young writer called Vicki Murrell. Ed is going to direct and it's hoped Johny and Urban will be significantly involved in the post production.

Martyn Gough is producing; Joseph Mastrangelo is photographing it; Deborah Paige is our consultant producer and it looks as if we have Sam Spruell on board for one of the roles.

At the moment we are short listing school locations and are about to begin the process of casting.

We will be revising the website to take into account this move into production so expect some significant revisions to the layout of the site. This will include a blog about the experience of making the short and a photo-blog of our progress.

We are shooting in middle of April so not long now!
